Auberge Resorts Collection’s Newest Property Offers a Blissful Experience

Etéreo, Auberge Resorts Collection’s new property on the Riviera Maya, announces its aspirations with its name, which means “ethereal” in Spanish.

With just 75 rooms, all facing the turquoise waters of the Caribbean, the resort delivers a sublime experience celebrating the local culture with extraordinary cuisine, breathtaking encounters with nature and beaches, and SANA, an Auberge Spa that facilitates rejuvenation in every sense of the word.

It all begins with an embrace of nature—lush, protected mangroves that edge the resort, an expanse of white-sand beach, a coral reef just 250 feet offshore—to enhance rejuvenation and relaxation. These elements have influenced the design of Etéreo, which incorporates Mayan principles of energy flow and dynamism. All accommodations have ocean views, floor-to-ceiling glass doors that invite the outdoors in, terraces and patios for sunbathing or private dining, and sky decks perfect for stargazing.

The resort’s surrounding environment and the local culture have also inspired the serene physical space and wellness offerings at SANA, an Auberge Spa. Botanical wisdom, organic ingredients and holistic Mayan practices like the healing Pure Souls treatment or the participatory Copal Sunset Ritual, have contributed to a menu that ranges from movement and sensory explorations to skin care, bodywork and active manipulation of energy to correct imbalances. The result is renewal of body and mind and a healthier, conscious approach to living.

When it comes to dining, Etéreo promises an imaginative culinary journey with venues that combine tradition with innovative preparations. At open-air Itzam, the signature restaurant, panoramic ocean views provide a backdrop for Mayan-inspired dishes that are often oven roasted or prepared over a wood-fired comal, and celebrate the area’s coastal bounty, like the grilled Mayan King Octopus.

The dishes at Che Che reflect Nikkei cuisine, the unusual pairing of Japanese techniques with Latin American ingredients. On the menu are Japanese tacos, birria gyozas, and tiraditos, meant for sharing while sipping imaginative cocktails alfresco.

For in-the-sand daytime dining, there’s El Changarro, which focuses on the catch of the day.

To make the most of a guest’s stay, Etéreo has itinerary designers and dedicated guias (guides) who can craft individualized experiences for couples or families. These may include concierge services like dinner reservations or transportation arrangements, or more elaborate plans for bespoke adventures that take advantage of the riches of the Riviera Maya.

An introduction to diving, photography and painting workshops, tastings of mezcal and other spirits from throughout Mexico are possibilities for adults. Families may find that the Storyteller Series, a piñata workshop or a workshop on cacao in Mexican cooking provide lasting and cherished memories for members of all generations.

Guias can also suggest excursions to some of the natural and manmade wonders of the Yucatán—swimming in a cenote, for example, or a trip to the ancient seaside temple near Tulum.

Of course, there are also undeniable simple pleasures: swimming in the ocean or relaxing at the family pool or the adults-only beach club and pool.

Meticulously designed by Migdal Architectos with interiors by Meyer Davis, the work of local artisans is evident throughout Etéreo’s custom furnishings and textiles, as well as its contemporary art installations. That careful curation is also reflected in the décor and selections at the Carolina K boutique, which range from sculptures and handcrafted ceramics to men’s and women’s clothing.

Luxuriously appointed and perfectly in tune with its environment, Etéreo is designed to lift one’s spirit to the heavens.
